It was a game of four halves.
In the first half J’ville were slow to arrive, so we agreed they could bat first. Things didn’t go well for them, as Evan effected a 2nd ball run-out, Couper induced a caught behind, Nando bowled a slower-ball and their batsman spooned it to Wortho, and Evan used flight and guile to clean-bowl and send Alex for a running backwards catch. J’ville were 30/5 after 8.
The second half was J’villes. They put on 121 runs from 72 balls, including one guy getting 76. He was run out in the last over by a Wynton no-look back, gloved, back-flick.
The third half wasn’t great for the Cats. Early wickets saw us reeling on 2/2 from 2, and recovering slightly to 44-4 from 7.5, thanks to Adam and Alex.
The fourth half was outstanding. Opener Adam and combined with #6 Wynton to put on 73 for the 5th wicket, off about 6 overs . When Adam departed, ring-in Garth showed no signs of wayne-ing, with two riverbound sixes. His short but sweet innings of 16 (6) took us within touching distance.
Couper then joined his fellow bash-brother, and between them they mopped up the last runs quickly. It was touch-and-go about whether Wynton would get to 50 before we won. With 3 runs required for both feats, he put it beyond doubt with a six straight down the ground.
