I Have a Dream

Karori Wildcats 262/4, A Hampshire 124* (53), P Fernando 64 (23), T Buchan 36* (16)
One Tonne Dream 112/10 (19), W Herbert 2-12 (3), S Rai 2-10 (2)

I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for cricket in the history of our nation.

I say to you today, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of a top-of-the-table clash
I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the Wildcats dream.

It is a dream to come up with a bold plan (“let’s just go smash 200”), and then for that plan to come off.

I have a dream that one day this Division 1 T20 competition will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident: that not all cricketers are created equal.”

I have a dream that one day on the green hills of Karori, where early wickets fell to have us 25/3 after four overs, some Wildcats, Hampshire and Fernando, will bat together for a 133 run partnership (in 8 overs).

I have a dream that one day even at the park of Ben Burn,
a pitch sweltering with the heat of Sunday afternoon,
sweltering with the heat of One Tonnery,
will be transformed into an oasis of sixes and fours.

I have a dream that only four little wickets will fall,
in an innings where Alex will not be judged out,
but dropped a couple of times by the outfielders,
to the discontent of their captain.

I have a dream today.

I have a dream that one day, down in Karori,
Hampshire and Buchan will put on a further 108 runs (in 8 overs),
Including 29 in the final over.

I have a dream today.

I have a dream that we’ll bowl and field spectacularly,

A dream where Will will directly destroy middle stump from cover,

A dream where Rhys takes 4 catches and a stumping off Crofty,

A dream where Pete and Kurt take boundary chances and then Kurt removes middle stump,

A dream where Will and Sukhin each take two scalps

A dream where the Wildcats win by 150 runs.

I have a dream today.
