Grading Game #4 – "Tiger Taming"

East Tigers 108/10 (19.4), Tom B 1-2(2), George H 1-1(2)
Karori Wildcats 109/3 (11.2), A Hampshire 56 (30)

With a 2 – 1 win loss record in hand, the final grading game of the 17/18 season gave the cats the chance to cement the already high likelihood of division 1 selection for the season proper.

Despite losing the toss, Nicholls got the desired result and the cats took to the Serengeti of Miramar for a bowl. It wasn’t long before the Tigers regretted their decision to bat as Tom and Nando picked off early victims from the pack. Those two early wickets brought the two biggest tigers to the crease and after some early misses, the two started finding their stride. With a team full of bowlers (literally) it wasn’t long before the skippers ploy of switching bowlers often paid off with Bobby finishing off a great two over spell with a caught behind. However, the big daddy tiger was still lurkingĀ  and was just starting to get some momentum when George took a stunner off Blair’s bowling. From that point on it was all about rounding up the tiger cubs which was done via three run outs, the last with an absolute rocket from Ben H. Credit to all 10 of the bowlers was well due especially Tom B and George who finished with the above figures.

With only 109 to chase and the prospect of a few beers at Gas Works, the cats made short work of total. Will and Alex opened up the chase and got off to a flyer thanks to some fairly average bowling. Once Will departed, Alex and Blair, then Blair and Keaton combined to knock off the runs with plenty of time to spare.

Credit to the current holder of the “spirit of the wildcats” award Rupert for making a visit with his kids, and George with the the strong WAG (and friends) contingent.
